What is Round Table? Read on...

Round Table can be best described as a "social club with a conscience" for men between the ages of 18 & 45. Round Table offers a mixed and varied range of social activities for it's members. Round Table nationally raises millions of pounds for thousands of good causes in the local community. Round Table has 696 Clubs throughout Great Britain and Ireland, as well as being part of a worldwide Movement.

Round Table started in 1927 and has been bringing together fun, friends and fund-raising for more than 80 years now. It was the vision of one man that started it all: Louis 'Mark' Marchesi who created the organization for young men in Norwich. The idea grew quickly and in the UK today Round Table now has 696 local clubs and a membership of over 8000. There are now over 2700 clubs and almost 40000 members worldwide !

Guisborough & District Round Table was Chartered on 4th February 1959 and in 1999 we celebrated our 40th anniversary with a commemorative charity dinner with guest speaker Jack Charlton. Check out our list of Past Chairmen; I bet there is someone there you know! Then in April 2009 we celebrated our 50th Anniversary with a dinner at Gisborough Hall.

Round Table Area 10 win the RT National Sports Weekend 2009 in Colchester (a first for Area 10).
The 29 members of the winning team included 8 from Guisborough.

On Saturday 27th June 2009 we took on the "Everest" challenge...via Roseberry Topping. We ascended RT 41 times (on a relay basis), from the car park at Newton-Under-Roseberry, which is the equivalent height of climbing Everest from sea level.
This charity challenge took place to raise funds for (mainly) Great North Air Ambulance and the Diabetes unit at James Cook Hospital - plus local charities and good causes.
£5,923 has been raised and we have now agreed donations of £2,000 to Great North Air Ambulance, £2,000 to James Cook Hospital Diabetes Unit (Diabetes Education Fund), £1,000 to Zoë's Place and £1,000 to RNLI (Redcar).

We were at the Guisborough Town Fair at Gisborough Hall on Sunday 7th June 2009 and also attended the Leonard Cheshire Disability Fete at the home in Marske by the Sea, on Saturday 13th June 2009, where we had a coconut stall.

Guisborough & District Round Table welcomes new members Steve Hewison (April '09) and Andrew Scott (May '09).

We have now added some photos from yesteryear. Please have a look under Photo Gallery/A Blast from the Past.
